Tanzanians Understudy SLTF

A seven (7) member delegate from Higher Education Students Loan Board (HELSB) of Tanzania, paid a  five (5) day working visit to Ghana to understudy operations of the Students Loan Trust Fund from September 09 to 13, 2024.

The delegation led by Elihuruma Lema, Director of Finance and Administration comprised Prof. Peter Msofe, Director Higher Education-MOEST; Phidelis Msafiri, Assistant. Director, Loan Repayment; Agatha Mchome, Legal Manager; Paul Bilabaye, Audit Committee Member as well as two other Board Members, Iddi Haji and Theresia Henjewele. 

During their visit, they received briefings from SLTF Management Team on funding sources of the students loan and their effectiveness, implementation of the no guarantor policy and related issues; loan application & disbursement processes; repayment and recovery strategies; SLTF IT infrastructure, business applications; policies on Ghana’s higher education financing; internal audit support to core business operations; communication strategies deployed and other related matters.

As part of the study tour, the Team also visited the Accra Regional Office (ARO) of the Trust Funds and some key partners of the SLTF including the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlements Systems (GhIPSS) and GETFUND.  

In his welcome remarks, the CEO of the SLTF, Mr. Nuhu Bayorbo Mahama indicated that his outfit always welcomes opportunities for experience sharing with comparable organizations such as HESLB. We are happy to have you. This shows that we are doing something good worth emulating he said.

The CEO also briefed the delegates on key initiatives, achievements and challenges encountered over the period in students’ loan management at the Trust Fund.

“We have made significant efforts to enhance our operations such as widen access to financial support for tertiary education; deepened stakeholder engagements and improved customer experience by  implementing innovative strategies and IT solutions’’. He also assured the delegates of SLTF’s continued support in sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices with other sister Agencies such as HESLB of Tanzania
