Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) Trains Representatives from all Colleges of Education in Accra

The Students Loan Trust Fund on April 27 and 28, 2015 organized a training seminar at Ampomaah Hotel, East Legon, for all Staff Liaison Officers and Loan Ambassadors in all colleges of Education across the country. A total of Seventy-six (76) participants were trained in the students’ loan application process and requirement. These representatives were from all 39 Public Colleges of Education and 4 Private Colleges nationwide. The Training was facilitated by the Head of Operations, Mr. Kofi Nkrumah and his team. Also present were the Board Chairman, Mr. Andy Osei Okrah and the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Sheila Naah Boamah.

This year’s training marks the second of such training programmes since the Students Loan Trust Fund took on board students from the Colleges of Education in the 2013/2014 academic year. The first of such training took place at the Students Loan Board Room between 28th April and 6th May 2014.

The training was aimed at equipping the Staff Liaison Officers and Loan Ambassadors with adequate information on the students’ loan application process to enable these representatives vet forms more thoroughly and provide support to loan applicants on their various campuses. It also provided the opportunity to engage with the representatives on ways to better serve students from our Colleges.

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) introduced the concept of having Representatives in all Colleges of Education on their portfolio to support the students loan applicants on their campuses. For every College therefore, the Trust Fund is represented by a Staff Liaison Officer who is a staff member, and a Loan Ambassador who is mostly a student loan applicant on the campus appointed by the students of that College.

In addition to these Representatives on Campus, additional support is provided to College of Education through our thirteen zonal offices spread across the country.

The Students Loan Trust Fund is mandated by Act 820, 2011 to disburse the loans to accredited tertiary institutions offering accredited tertiary programmes in Ghana. The Students Loan Trust Fund Act also requires all loans to be guaranteed for. In line with these requirements, the Trust Fund is working with all relevant stakeholders to reduce barriers to accessing the students’ loan by eligible Ghanaians.
