2017 AAHEFA Annual General Meeting and Conference at Maseru, Lesotho

The Students Loan Trust Fund, participated in the 2017 Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Association of African Higher Education Financing Agencies (AAHEFA) which took place from the 31st October to the 4th of November, 2017.

A high level delegation comprising Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah (CEO); Ms. Gifty Appiasie (Deputy Director, Internal Audit); Mr. Jupiter Nyamadi (Principal Manager, Applications Development); Mr. Frederick Amoah (Senior Finance Manager) and Esenam Akosua Dzansi (Assistant Admin. Manager) represented the Trust Fund.

The 2017 AAHEFA AGM was hosted by the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) of Lesotho at Maseru, under the theme: “Africa’s Higher Education Financing; Bottlenecks and Solutions”.

The Association of African Higher Education Financing Agencies, (AAHEFA) is an umbrella body that brings together institutions from the African continent mandated with the issuance of loans, scholarships, bursaries or grants to students in pursuance of higher education within Africa and beyond.

Participants from other sister agencies were drawn from the Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB) of Uganda; Higher Education Students Loan Board (HESLB), Tanzania; National Student Financial Aid Scheme; (NSFAS) of South Africa; and the Higher Education Students Loans and Bursaries Management (HESLBM) of Rwanda. Other member countries which participated were the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) of Kenya; Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB), Zambia; the Higher Education Students Loans &Grants Board (HESLGB) of Malawi; Human Resources Development Council (HRDC) of Botswana and the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF).

At the event, the CEO of the Trust Fund, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah was appointed the Chairperson of the newly formed Membership and Partnership Committee.

According to the CEO of SLTF, the AAHEFA Conference provides a unique opportunity to meet with similar agencies across the continent to learn new trends and innovations in funding higher education both across the African continent and globally. It also provides a wide platform to share experiences, exchange skills and adopt new and better strategies, he noted.

Guest speakers at the conference comprise the Hon Ministers of Education and Training and Development Planning all of Government of Lesotho. There were also experts’ presentations from education-related organizations and academia.
